Here are the latest miscellaneous Superman references from best-selling books, popular tv shows and movies, etc. I could find and post here.


The Time Traveler's Wife

Just recently read the book and seen the movie (starring Erica Bana and Rachel McAdams) of The Time Traveler's Wife. I loved both book and movie versions. In the book though, it references Lois & Clark/Superman and mentions Jimmy Olsen as well.

This was in protagonist Henry DeTamble's point of view in the book when his co-workers/boss at a Chicago library where he works at were stunned to see him time traveling while at work. He was appearing/disappearing and they saw two sets of Henrys (his present and future self) at the same time.

Here's the text part mentioning them (page 463):

"Gosh," says Catherine. "It's like working with Clark Kent."
"I feel like Jimmy Olsen," says Matt. "Ugh."
"That makes you Lois Lane," Roberto teases Catherine.
"No, no, Clare is Lois Lane," she replies.
Matt says, "But Lois Lane was oblivious to the Clark Kent/Superman connection, whereas Clare..."
"Without Clare I would have given up a long time ago," I say.
"I never understood why Clark Kent was so hell bent on keeping Lois Lane in the dark. "
"It makes a better story," says Matt.
"Does it? I don't know," I reply.


Superman "S" symbol in Funny People

Seth Rogen's new film "Funny People" opened in theaters last July, and it appears the Jewish actor might be a fan of the Man of Steel... or maybe he just likes the Star of David.

During the film Seth's character is seen wearing a "Superjew" T-Shirt... the "S" symbol within the Star of David.

MTV Cribs - Shaquille O'neal

Below is a segment from the show, "MTV Cribs" in which Shaquille O'Neal takes us on a tour of his huge house.

As you can see below, Shaq himself is a big fan of the Man of Steel. His house is filled with walls, carpets, bed spreads, cars, and basket ball court all adorned with the Superman "S" shield.

Note: Nearly all the "Superman" items in Shaq's house are custom-made. They are not available to purchase at your local store or online.

Heroes mentions Superman...again!

NBC's Heroes has previously referenced Clark Kent/Superman in about 1-2 Season 1 episodes (which was previously mentioned here: In Pop Culture: TV Shows with Superman/Clois References) and most recently in their 3rd season, in episode Chapter Eight 'Into Asylum', Heroes' father/daughter characters Nathan Petrelli (his ability is flight) and daughter Claire Bennet (who is an evolved human with the ability to rapidly heal from any injury) mentioned flying and Superman.


Claire Bennet: You know what? Over the years, I couldn't help but... think about my real dad. Who you were, what you looked like, your job. And then I met you; and you were more amazing than anything I could have ever imagined.
Nathan Petrelli: I mean, it's just a fantasy.
Claire Bennet: No. No, it doesn't have to be! You could do anything you want - you could fly!
Nathan Petrelli: Claire...
Claire Bennet: You're supposed to be Superman.



Twilight novel mentions Lois/Superman

In the last chapter of Stephenie Meyer's best-selling novel, Twilight (the first book from her very popular Twilight series), the heroine Bella Swan briefly mentioned Lois and Superman in the following text below:

Chapter 24. An Impasse (page 474)

"You have saved me," he said quietly.
"I can't always be Lois Lane," I insisted. "I want to be Superman, too."

Teri Hatcher and Band From TV's charity concert for Epilepsy in Miami

Teri Hatcher (along with DH co-star James Denton) and her group Band From TV did a Charity Concert for Epilepsy in Miami's Shore Club, Saturday, May 16th.

Band From TV consist of these talented and popular TV stars (including 2 of my current favorite tv shows: DH and Heroes): Greg Grunberg (Heroes), Teri Hatcher (Desperate Housewives), James Denton (Desperate Housewives), Adrian Pasdar (Heroes), Bob Guiney (The Bachelor), Bonnie Somerville (Casmere Mafia), and Jesse Spencer (House).

Teri's fellow BFTV member, Heroes' Greg Grunberg tweeted earlier today:

Update 5/18/09:

I found a YT video of Teri and BFTV performing. The video is funny 'cause it was shaky and kinda like "Blair Witch" type of video as LesleyAndersson, who recorded and uploaded it to YT said she didn't know how to record anything, lol. Still, it was nice for her to record and upload it to YT and to share with everyone.

Here's the YT video. You'll see, though not clearly... that Teri was performing with a tambourine and her daughter Emerson has a tambourine in her hands as well. Teri made a splashy finish (as Greg Grunberg has previously tweeted) to end their show by jumping into the pool...and someone followed her, but I don't recognized who he was, haha!!!

Five Reasons Why 'Smallville' is Better Than 'Heroes'

Here's an interesting article from buddytv.com (which I agree on for the most part on their current seasons as I've been watching both shows on Mondays and Thursdays. Though, in my opinion, I think it's unfair to compare them, as SV has been on for 8 seasons while Heroes has only been on for 3... and they're completely different shows in terms of storytelling and how their characters appeal to many different viewers around the world...) about why The CW's Smallville series is (currently) better than NBC's Heroes series.

While Heroes has suffered both creatively and ratings-wise during its latest season, another show about super-powered individuals has thrived. Even with new cast members and four new showrunners behind the scenes, Smallville is generating great ratings and tons of buzz. The show has pleased many fans by moving the action to Metropolis, which has allowed the writers to focus more on Clark's evolution into Superman. The action-packed series has become a perfect example of how to bring complicated comic book storytelling to television.



With NBC recently firing two Heroes producers in a desperate attempt to get the show back on track, it's obvious the series needs help. In an effort to help the network revitalize their struggling series, buddytv.com came up with a list of five things Smallville delivers that Heroes fails at.

Speaking of Jeph Loeb (former Smallville co-exec producer), the now ex-Heroes co-exec producer/writer, Greg Beeman is the only other former SV producer that is currently still in the Heroes' crew. Hope he stays and doesn't get the boot. His Beeming Beeman Blog about Heroes is awesome as he weekly blogs about new Season 3 Heroes episodes (as well as from the past 2 seasons) and post lots of behind the scenes photos and info. of the cast and crew from the show.

I have recently just started watching NBC's Heroes (currently on its 3rd season) because of the beautiful and very talented actress Ali Larter (her mysterious and multiple characters are my favorite to watch on this show...unfortunately, her original character Niki Sanders has been killed-off on the S2 Finale cliffhanger. She at least died a Hero. RIP Niki Sanders :-/), and I've noticed two familiar names in the producers' staff (Greg Beeman and Jeph Loeb) who used to be part of Smallville's crew as co-executive producers, consultant, and supervising producers. The show and title itself is very interesting. Not too mention, most of the characters' superpowers/abilities reminds me of the original and super iconic/comic book character... the one and only, Superman, who in my opinion, with its super powers and super heroic deeds was and is to this day, still unmatched. Still, Heroes is different and very interesting to watch on its own. Basically, the premise of Heroes was about, Ordinary people with extraordinary abilities. They thought they were like everyone else... until they woke up with incredible abilities. They are people who wake up with extraordinary powers and how it effect themselves, their perceptions, their lives, and their relationships with others. This show wasn't meant to be solely about superheroes though, it's all really centered around the characters and the people around them. It's really an interesting show to watch and I'm glad I'm watching it now even though I'm a lil' late, lol...Thank goodness for DVDs, I'm catching up with the current season and have already seen some past season 1 & 2 episodes.


Anyways...enough with my Heroes rant as it's an entirely different show and not quite Smallville/Superman related subject to talk about here, lol.
