The cast and crew of Desperate Housewives have much to celebrate for as the ABC dramedy earns several nominations from various award-winning bodies. This year, the series created by Marc Cherry has caught the attention of notable associations behind the Directors Guild of America Awards, the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the GLAAD Media Awards.
As one of the nominees at the 60th Annual Directors Guild of America awards dinner on Saturday, January 26, 2008, at the Hyatt Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, Desperate Housewives director David Grossman will be contending for the award for “Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Comedy Series” for the episode “Something's Coming,” which features a tornado tearing through Wisteria Lane. This Grossman's second DGA Award Nomination as he was previously nominated in the Musical/Variety category for The Smothers Brothers 20th Year Reunion in 1988.
Desperate Housewives will also be going against NBC's 30 Rock, HBO's Entourage, NBC's The Office and ABC's Ugly Betty as it vies for the Screen Actors Guild Award for “Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.” The 14th annual awards ceremony is set for January 27 at the Shrine in Los Angeles Exposition Center, simulcast live nationally on TNT and TBS at 8 pm ET/PT.
Last but certainly not the least, Desperate Housewives has been included in the list of shows that depicts positive portrayals of gay and lesbian issues on television. The dramedy has scored nods for the 19th Annual GLAAD Media Awards for “Outstanding Comedy Series,” along with Comedy Central's The Sarah Silverman Program, ABC's Ugly Betty, FOX's The War at Home, and Logo's Exes and Ohs.
This year's GLAAD event will follow the same format as previous years, with a ceremony first at New York's Marriott Marquis on March 17, then bashes at South Florida's Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on April 12, Los Angeles' Kodak Theater on April 26 and San Francisco's Marriot on May 10.
