The Sun Sentinel has published an article regarding the status of shows on The CW. There's only one small paragraph about "Smallville", but the content of which may dismay many fans...
- [The CW's Entertainment President, Dawn] Ostroff declined to definitively say Smallville is over after this season but she indicated this is the direction the CW is leaning. The producers have been told to create a season-ender that could also serve as the series-ender.
There's no doubt we'll be hearing more about this as Season 8's finale draws closer.
***Update - 1/16/09***
IGN.com also recently spoke to The CW's President of Entertainment, Dawn Ostroff regarding a possible ninth season of "Smallville"...
"We're starting to talk about it. Obviously, we are prepared either way. If the show doesn't go on, we've got a series finale that the writers have been thinking about, but I think we'd all love to see the show come back." Ostroff went on to say, "Creatively, we've got a new team of writers who are running the show and they've done a great job with the series this year. We've gotten great feedback from the fans. It's interesting, because they've even used more female characters this year, which I think has even really helped it blend in more with the rest of the [CW] lineup. So, we've been really pleased with the show and would love to see it back."
The official verdict probably won't come down until the upfronts in May, when the networks unveil their new fall schedules, however E! Online says that the chances of "Smallville" being renewed for a 9th season are "Good, assuming Tom Welling is up for it - the show continues to have admirable ratings and has creatively thrived despite the exit of Kristin Kreuk and Michael Rosenbaum."

On behalf of the millions of Lois Lane fans, I'm looking for scoopage. What can you tell us about her part in "Infamous," which is tentatively scheduled to air March 5? P.S. Where are those new Smallville promo shots you said were taken in November? — Becca
MATT: Millions, eh? "Infamous" brings Lois back with a considerable bang when meteor-freak reporter Linda Lake (Tori Spelling) blackmails Clark into doing her bidding, lest she spill his super secret. Nice try, Donna. Clark is no one's bitch, so he decides to give Lois the "exclusive" on his abilities. P.S. Will this whet your whistle? (or see same ED pic above ^^) Kate Bosworth & Ryan Kavanaugh: Dating?
Kate Bosworth and her date for the night, film financier Ryan Kavanaugh, were seen getting cozy at Saturday’s Art of Elysium charity gala in Los Angeles (see Kate's photos from the charity gala here: Out & About: Kate Bosworth @ the Art of Elysium's 2nd annual black tie gala )
Kate, 26, and Ryan, 34, were spotted holding hands during the event, which Ryan co-chaired with Balthazar Getty’s ex Rosetta. Page Six reports Kate already broke up with model James Rousseau. The gossip column also reports at the after-party at the Edison club, Ryan was again spotted holding hands with Kate. Kate’s publicist tells JustJared.com that Kate is “just friends” with Ryan, who is the chief executive of Relativity Media, a private production and financing company. Kate was last spotted together with James Rousseau on December 18.
