SDCC '09: Smallville Panel Highlights

Tom Welling & Erica Durance (aka Smallville's Clark & Lois or Clois for short) were in attendance at this Sunday's Smallville panel at Comic-Con '09 with fellow Smallville cast (Allison Mack, Justin Hartley, Cassidy Freeman, and Callum Blue) & crew (executive producers Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson).

Check out the following...

Highlights from the SDCC Smallville Panel featuring Tom & Erica/Clois/Smallville...
  • Erica Durance (Lois Lane) will be appearing in 18 episodes during Season 9. (Smallville producers thanked Clois fans for Operation Wild Cherry supporting Erica on the show and getting more episodes).
  • Tom Welling (Clark Kent) will be directing two episodes (Allison Mack said that Tom is her favorite director) as well as serve as a co-executive producer during Season 9.
  • Erica says Lois comes back from future with an amnesia and she'll be getting flashes she doesn't understand.
  • Brian Peterson: "Just as Clark falls for Lois, she's falling for someone else." (Superman, perhaps?
  • Will there be a Smallville movie? They didn't answer. So, guess it's just a rumor (for now)...
  • executive producer Kelly Souders says they actually had two different episodes for the season eight finale because they weren't sure if they would end the show last year. They do have a series finale planned if season nine is the last, but that can change if they are picked up. Brian Peterson says they're not worried about "stalling."
  • When is Clark going to fly? Brian Peterson says tune in to the season premiere because they address it then.
  • Erica (on Lois and Clark): "I think you guys are going to be pretty excited this year. Lois dealing with being smitten with Superman and still finds Clark irritating." This season is going to be "spicy"
  • Zod returns: "Kneel before Zod!" Callum shown fighting with Tess. Lois is fighting in the future. Chloe with the gun. Oliver and Lois seem to be getting closer. Brian Austin Green looks freaky. Love scene between Lois and Clark. Showing a version of Clark in the future. Was that Lex on screen? Clark in a black cape with the S on his chest.
  • Sneak peek: Montage of Clark turning into the red/blue blur and his path to becoming a hero. "And he is not alone" Justice League is there with him! Aquaman, Black Canary, Impulse, Cyborg, Zatanna, Martian Manhunter, Supergirl and Green Arrow, plus the Legion. Don't forget Watch tower.

Update #2 (7/27/09):

Kryptonsite's webmaster Craig Byrne interviewed Erica Durance at Comic-Con...

Here's a lil' excerpt...

Comic-Con 2009: Erica Durance Interview

This season, your episode count has been upped to 18 episodes. How do you feel this will improve the continuity of your character and will we no longer have months with no Lois?

Given that there's 18, then the time where Lois disappears is unlikely. So right now I've been really, really busy and working a lot, and am very much enjoying the arc that they've given me to play with this year, and I'm really looking forward to the rest.

Erica talks about inspiration from previous Lois Lane actresses:

The way I work is, I will totally appreciate what the other [Loises] do, but for me to research, I could never be Margot Kidder; I could never be Teri Hatcher, and I would fall into the trap of trying to be them instead of seeing it through my eyes. So if it makes sense, I try to see Lois as a brand new person, and even though she is a much beloved character, I try to look at it as this brand new girl, never been played before by anyone, and kind of go with it. Of course, I also have the luxury of having a really great creative team that would go "okay, but this is the way she is," so all of those points of the character were still there, but I was allowed to kind of reinvent it.
