Smallville moving to Fridays on The CW's 2009-10 Fall Schedule?

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Smallville is moving from its regular Thursday Nights slot to Fridays at 8 PM this fall for the network's 2009-2010 schedule and to be on its final 9th season. It's being replaced by a new series, Vampire Diaries, which stars Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley (both actors have done guest stars stint in Smallville in past seasons as Adam Knight and Lucas Luthor). Supernatural retains its Thursday nights time and slot, following Vampire Diaries.

Here's what the HR article has reported:

The CW is the latest network to make a bold move on Thursday.

After days of rumblings, the CW is said to have settled on launching the hot new drama "Vampire Diaries" Thursday 8 p.m., paired with "Supernatural." "Vampire Diaries" would replace the staple in the time slot, departing veteran "Smallville," whose final ninth season would air on Friday, probably at 8 p.m.

The network is set to unveil its fall schedule Thursday in New York.

"Vampire Diaries," about a girl in a love triangle with two vampire brothers, is envisioned as a new tentpole series for Thursday night where the network already has built-in sci-fi audience with "Smallville" and "Supernatural."
